Constantia, N.Y. — One person was killed Sunday evening after a dirt bike and a pickup truck collided on state Route 49 in Constantia, Oswego County Sheriff’s Investigator James Pietroski said in a news release.
The person on the Honda dirt bike died in the accident, Pietroski said in the release. Police have not yet identified either driver, but they gave details of how the crash happened:
At about 5:45 p.m., the dirt bike operator was traveling south, out of a private driveway, and tried to cross state Route 49. At the same time, the driver of a 2016 Dodge pickup truck was heading west on Route 49 while towing a boat. That’s when the dirt bike and pickup truck collided, the release said.
An ambulance happened to be driving down Route 49 and came upon the crash, Oswego County 911 dispatchers said. Ambulance crews immediately notified 911 of the accident in the area of 1196 state Route 49, dispatchers said.
Oswego County sheriff’s deputies, state police, Constantia volunteer firefighters and North Shore Ambulance responded to the scene.
The pickup truck driver was not injured in the crash, sheriff’s investigator said in the news release. However, the dirt bike operator was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
Sheriff’s investigators are continuing to investigate the crash and notify family members of the person who died, the release said.
