5 people escape Brant County crash that left trailer completely destroyed: police

Five people escaped without injury after a crash that left a trailer completely crumpled and debris strewn across a Brant County road.

Emergency crews were called to Cockshutt Road near Burch Road around 10:42 a.m. following reports of a single-vehicle collision, said OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk in a video shared on Twitter.

The pickup was heading north when its driver lost control and ended up in the ditch, rolling several times, according to provincial police.

Two adults, a 10-year-old, eight-year-old and five-year-old were all involved in the crash, but weren’t hurt, said Sanchuk.

The video shows a crushed trailer surrounded by camping gear including a cooler, firewood and a kid’s bike.

“The debris field is unbelievable and we’re actually surprised there are no serious injuries,” said Sanchuk. “That’s the good news. Vehicles and campers can be replaced, people can’t.”

Despite the damage, police are urging other drivers not to gawk.

The road is down to a single lane and Sanchuk said officers gave a transport truck driver who recorded a video of the crash, rather than paying attention to the road, a ticket for $500.
