We’ve been chomping at the bit to learn all we can about the upcoming GMC Hummer EV Sport Utility Truck (SUT), and although details were sparse in the most-recent Hummer teaser video, the teaser does provide some tantalizing hints as to what the new all-electric pickup will offer. Now, we’re taking a closer look at some of the pickup’s exterior features, including the tow hooks, lights, and more.
Let’s start with the tow hooks. With General Motors claiming that the vehicle offers “incredible” off-road capability, it makes sense that the GMC Hummer SUT would be decked-out in all manner of off-roader gear – including a set of tow hooks. And that’s exactly what we see in the teaser video, with two prominent U-shaped tow hooks mounted in the front fascia. The hooks are located low in the bumper, and appear to hang just above a set of skid plates. The tow hooks in the teaser are finished in silver, but we’d imagine the final production vehicle to offer several different colors, with black being the obvious standard color, per previous teasers.
The new teaser also gives us another look at the GMC Hummer SUT’s lighting. We’ve seen the vehicle’s lights previously in a front fascia teaser that shows the headlamps illuminated with bright LED elements arranged in thin strips left and right, sandwiching what appears to be a light-up grille section with the Hummer logo emblazoned across it (see below).
The new teaser shows the same lighting elements as they are when turned off, as well as what appears to be fog lights mounted lower in the bumper.
Next, the GMC Hummer EV’s all-electric powertrain design will provide plenty of room inside the vehicle for storage. Indeed, without a big ICE-powered engine up front, the new EV will offer additional storage space with a front-mounted trunk instead. This front-trunk, or “frunk” as it’s more popularly known, looks big enough to fit several suitcases, and will expand the vehicle’s available cargo room considerably.
Then we have the wheels, which come with broad spokes and a polished finish that’s highly reminiscent of past Hummer wheel designs. The wheels are wrapped in chunky tires that should help to underline the vehicle’s off-roader aspirations.
Finally, unlike the GMC Hummer SUV, the SUT model’s spare tire is nowhere to be found, at least not in the teaser images released thus far. While the SUV model shows a spare attached to the rear hatch, the SUT could mount the spare under the bed.

The GMC Hummer EV SUT was previously scheduled to debut in May, but was delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The model’s reveal has been rescheduled for the fall, with production commencing in 2021 at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan. The new Hummer will ride on the GM BT1 platform.
