STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A woman who lives in Arrochar says an accident involving a pick-up truck careening into a deli highlights dangerous traffic conditions on her street.
One person was taken to the hospital after a Toyota TRD truck hit the front of Arrochar Market at 101 McClean Ave. on Tuesday at about 11:45 a.m., according to the FDNY.
While it was not clear if speed, the rainy weather or other factors played a role in the crash, at least one resident was left on edge by the incident.
Residents of nearby Ocean Avenue, which terminates on McClean with the market at the end of the block, “have been requesting a speed bump for years to no effect,” said Althea Morin.
She said drivers typically travel down Ocean too fast “to avoid the lights on Lily Pond Avenue.”
“A speed bump would save lives,” she said.
Moran heard the crash, called 911 and took a photo that shows the truck inside the store.
No one answered a phone call to the store on Wednesday.
