Bollinger Motors, a US-based start-up developing a range of off-road EVs, has now added a thrid model to its line-up. This is the Chassis Cab version of its Bollinger B2 EV pick-up truck. The company also makes the Bollinger B1 electric SUV. All three models are expected to launch in the US by the middle of next year.
The B2 Chassis Cab can be had with either a two-door or a four-door cab, with numerous wheelbase lengths also on offer for the load area. The truck has a payload capacity of around 2.2 tonnes. Other than this, this version also carries over the rugged, off-road focused design of other Bollinger models, along with similar;y simplistic retro styling. Notable features carried over here are the unique full-length pass-through, the simple waterproof cabin and a onboard outlet for power tools.
The B2 Chassis Cab is mechanically identical to the B1 SUV and B2 pick-up truck. It sits on the e-chassis EV architecture that uses a 120 kWh battery, the company say a longer range 180 kWh battery will be available eventually as well. This powers a dual-motor set-up with one motor on each axle, given the Bollinger AWD capabilities. Power and torque figures are a substantial 614PS and 906 Nm, although the type of bed fitted make affect the 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.5s and the 320 km range that the pick-up claims.
The B2 Chassis Cab is also expected to be heavily off-road-focused like its siblings. There are portal gear hubs, a 52-degree approach angle, hydraulic power steering, hydraulic anti-lock power brakes and self-levelling hydro-pneumatic air-suspension.
The Bollinger is a new breed of off-road-focused electric work trucks that are set to flood the US car market over the next couple of years. It will go up against the Tesla Cybetruck, the new Hummer Ev from GMC, EV start-up Rivian, and an electric F-150 that Ford is developing.
