SUDBURY —
Classic vehicle owners in Sudbury wound their way around Health Sciences North honking horns to show their support for front-line workers.

“So today Cruisin for Organs and Sudbury Classic Cars, we decided to get together today and doing Cruisin for Heroes, which is all essential workers across our city. From nurses, doctors, truck drivers, janitors right across the whole board, just to show our appreciation.”said Bob Johnston the organizer of Cruisin for Heroes.

Jason Gifford is the President of Sudbury Classic Cruisers and brought out his shiny ’39 Buick Coupe to salute frontline workers.

“It’s just to show support to all the front-line workers and hopefully boost the morale of anybody who is in the hospital right now.”

Gifford shares his love of classic vehicles with other members of Sudbury Classic Cruisers.

“We are a car club that celebrates the heritage of classic cars and I am not sure we are going to have much of a gathering this year for cars shows and stuff like that. We are a charitable organization and we give money to the food bank and the Northern Ontario Families of Children With Cancer and this year our charity of choice is the Infant Food bank.” said Gifford.

Cruising for Heroes did several passes around the hospital honking in support of staff on the front-lines.

“It’s to thank all the nice folks that are keeping us going, all the workers out there and it’s Mother’s Day, so it’s to say thank you,” said Gerry Montpellier, Ward 3 Councillor and classic car owner.

Over 20 classic cars took part in the event.

“I think it’s important to do this cause the community is almost in shambles right now and I think it’s good that everyone keeps a smile on their face and takes part in some form of community event, just to keep smiles and a positive attitude,” said Chandler Boyer of Sudbury Auto Glass.

Cruisin for heroes also drove past Pioneer Manor, The Samaritan Centre, Grace Family Church and the Sudbury Foodbank.
