Convenience store clerk stabbed, beaten in Oakland

OAKLAND — A clerk at a Fruitvale district convenience store was beaten, stabbed and slashed Monday morning after he got into a dispute with some customers, authorities said..

The 21-year-old man was in stable condition at a hospital.

The incident happened about 6:20 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the QuikStop store,  2400 Fruitvale Ave.

Police said the clerk got into a dispute with two male customers who had purchased some beer. The dispute carried over into the lot where someone in a pickup truck was waiting for two men.

The clerk was beaten by both men and stabbed once and slashed more than once with a knife by one of the men, authorities said.

The suspects then got into the truck which was last seen driving southbound on Fruitvale toward Foothill Boulevard, police said.

What the dispute was about has not been confirmed. A representative for the store could not be reached for comment.

The suspected stabber was described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25, about 5 foot 5 and 130 pounds with a black ponytail.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
