A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a pickup truck in Vernon this morning.
RCMP say at around 9 a.m. today, Aug. 24, a motorcycle and a pickup collided in a construction zone in the intersection of 25 Avenue and 39 Street.
The driver of the pickup made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle and the impact knocked off the motorcyclist’s helmet before the driver hit the ground, according to an RCMP media release.
The operator of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The pickup’s driver remained at the scene of the crash and is cooperating with police.
“It does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in this collision,” Vernon RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Tania Finn says in the release. “As the collision occurred in a construction zone, Worksafe B.C. was advised by police.”
The intersection was closed for a time and has since reopened to traffic.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to contact Const. Gordon Carson of the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.
