Custom builds based on the medium-duty Chevrolet C/K series trucks are becoming more commonplace. The medium-duty, second-generation Chevrolet pickup was only sold as a chassis cab model for fleet purposes, but these trucks have found a new lease on life as builders salvage their bodies and chassis and turn them into the heavy-duty Chevrolet C/K consumer truck that General Motors never built.
This 1968 Chevrolet C40 is a perfect example of one of these modern builds. This truck started out life as a 1.5-ton chassis cab work truck, but it has now been transformed into a high-riding off-roader that blends vintage style with modern-day creature comforts.
Under the hood of this black-on-black Chevrolet C40 is a 6.0L Vortec V8 engine, which is paired with a 4l80E four-speed automatic transmission, a Dana 44 front differential and an Eaton G80 locking rear differential. Other upgrades include large Hardcore alloy wheels wrapped in huge 42-inch off-road tires, which sit neatly nestled in custom-made fender flares, and lifted suspension.
This massive pickup seats six thanks to the custom-made three-wide seating in the front and rear. This truck also has a current-day truck center console to hold drinks, change, smartphones and whatever else the modern motorist might take with them on their journey.
Barrett-Jackson says this custom Chevrolet C40 “checks all the right boxes, from the powerplant to the interior and refinements.” The auction company is selling it through its private sales arm and is asking a fairly steep $129,000 for it. That’s a ton of money for an old Chevy C/K, but then again, you’ll probably never seen another one quite like this.
