The CSX railroad tracks off Reber Road were temporarily closed shortly after midnight this morning after a motor vehicle was spotted driving on the tracks.
Law enforcement officials said the driver meant no harm and no charges will be filed.
Sheriff’s deputies said they were notified at about 12:13 a.m. of an older model Chevy Silverado pickup truck driving suspiciously near Reber Road, possibly having driven onto the train tracks. Reber Road is a dead-end road off Rome-Oriskany Road in the outer district.
Responding officers spotted the truck driving eastbound on the tracks, heading towards the Village of Oriskany. The truck was eventually stopped by the Whitestown Police Department.
CSX Transportation was asked to temporarily shut down the track from oncoming trains while law enforcement conducted their investigation.
Deputies said the driver and passengers were interviewed and it was determined that they did not intend to commit any type of crime, so they were escorted off the tracks and sent on their way.
No criminal charges will be filed. CSX was told they could re-open the tracks, the law enforcers said.
