He told Seven’s Flashpoint program that in an instant, his work dried up.

But his brother offered him a job with the family trucking business to see him through, and he jumped on the opportunity and got a truck licence.

After appearing on Flashpoint, Peter chatted to Sunrise this week about his career change.

Peter said he tried to get some country gigs, but soon restrictions came in place for public events. He said he even considered using his teaching degree, but ‘they shut the schools down.’

‘I’m okay to survive for a few months, but cause it’s unending, I just sort of went, “I’ll get a trucking licence, it’s something I can do and it’s part of the industry that’s still operating and I have connections in it”… so it’s been fun,’ Peter said.

He added that the coronavirus pandemic just ‘forces your hand’ to find whatever work you can, remaining upbeat about things.

‘It’ll be fun, I’m trying to embrace it and it”ll keep the wheels turning for the family…it’s going to be great,’ he said.

Peter played Brett Craig on Kath and Kim during its run from 2002 to 2007.

He starred in the show alongside Jane Turner, Gina Riley, Magda Szubanski and Glenn Robbins.

On Monday, Magda, 59, showed her appreciation for frontline healthcare workers amid the pandemic with a coronavirus dance video that featured staff from several Australian hospitals.

She got into character as Sharon Strzelecki from Kath & Kim and sang ‘COVID Bug’, a parody of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love with lyrics that reflect the current health crisis.

‘This COVID bug you’ve given, you took all my PP (personal protection) equipment, you even took my mask and that’s not all,’ Sharon sang at one point.

The split screen video featured Sharon busting out some dance moves in her signature netball uniform.

Meanwhile, workers from Ambulance Victoria, Footscray Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital all danced along to the ’80s tune.
