“Help!” says the blonde! “My smoke detectors are all chirping, and I can’t get them to go off!”

“Calm down, Ma’am; we’re here to help. Just tell us how to get there!”

“Duh, says the blonde … Big Red Truck!?”

A heartfelt thank you to the South Walton Fire Department for their professional responsiveness to a stressful situation. As a result of a power outage, the smoke alarms in our house started blaring.

I am sure that their warning screech is designed to wake the dead. Amid the scurrying cats, we tried everything we could think of to silence the alarms. Nothing worked. Finally, in desperation, we called the fire department. They answered quickly, listened sympathetically, and said that someone would come to our house soon to fix the alarms.

Within 10 minutes the fire truck arrived, lights flashing to pique the interest of the neighbors. The firemen came to the door and politely entered the house. They quickly set to work to find the cause of the problem. Within a short while they discovered the culprit smoke detector and managed to silence the terrible noise throughout the house.

They were friendly, courteous, personable, and understanding. They left offering any further assistance we may need with the alarm system.

Thank you again Chief Kevin and Crew at Station 5. Job well done.

Mark and Kathy Brady, Miramar Beach
