Police have identified a person of interest in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a husband and wife in Natick on Tuesday night, officials said.Witnesses said the couple was walking south on Washington Avenue on a sidewalk just before 6:30 p.m. when a blue pickup truck jumped the curb and hit the pedestrians, pushing them into a fence. Upon arrival, police found the victims, a man and a woman who live in Natick, suffering from serious injuries. Police confirmed Wednesday that officials located the truck and have identified a person of interest in the case. Officials later said the victims were a 51-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man.“You just don’t drive down a roadway and strike two people and leave. That’s not what human beings do to each other,” Natick Police Department Chief James Hicks said. “I think that you need to come forward and take responsibility.”Neighbors told NewsCenter 5 that the victims were both conscious and alert after the crash. They also said the woman appeared to be more severely injured than the man.”It must have thrown her through the fence, and she was impaled with part of the wood through her chest and her legs were just completely messed up,” said Karen Miscia, a nurse who lives near the scene of the crash. “I tried to keep her calm, keep her stable. The lady was a mess, just a mess.””It’s really scary and sad to see this,” said witness Ann Lentell.Both victims were transported by a Life Flight medical helicopter to area trauma centers with life-threatening injuries.As of Wednesday afternoon, the man had been released from the hospital but the woman remained hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries. “What I’m hearing from those in the area and the town is that they don’t understand how someone can do this, how anyone can do this to two people,” Hicks said. Witnesses said that they saw a female driver let two teenage boys out of the truck. The boys took off on foot while the truck sped away from the scene. “A navy blue pickup sped like crazy out of this street, didn’t look where they were turning and just fled right around the corner,” Lentell said. “They were trying to get out of there, fast.””I hope they get the kids that did that — if it was kids — and I hope they learn their lesson,” Miscia said.
