WILMINGTON — Randall Hubert ‘Cotton’ File, 67, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was born Nov. 23, 1952, in Salisbury.
Randall was a graduate of East Rowan High School, Class of 1971. He enjoyed bass fishing and many fishing tournaments with his brother in law, Earl Hollis. He also enjoyed boating; spending time with his dog, Cody; and eating crab legs! Randall was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons for many, many years.
Randall was a professional truck driver. He owned Randall File Trucking and went on to drive for Estes Trucking. Over the years, he earned the C.B. handle “Cotton.” Randall was also the owner and operator of Randall’s Lawn Maintenance. Randall became a large part of the community doing lawn maintenance with his “Buddy,” Tyler Roethlinger.
He was preceded in death by his beloved bride of 33 years, Nancy File; brother, Ronald File of Salisbury; and mother, Elva Christine Ally File, and father, Hubert James File of Salisbury.
He is survived by his sister, Karen “Granny” Brewer, and her husband, Randy; son, Randy File, and his wife, Stacye; daughter, Amy Chandler, and her husband, Richard; son, Ray Canady, and his wife, Carol; grandchildren, Kierstin Chandler, Justin Chandler, Gary Canady and Kyle Canady; great-grandchildren, Noah Ray Canady and Vivianne Preset; sister-in-law, Terrie Sasser, and her husband, Lew; brother-in-law, Earl Hollis, and his wife, Tina; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Davita Cape Fear Dialysis for taking good care of Randall every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during his dialysis treatments.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, at Olivet Baptist Church 138 Glendale Drive, Wilmington, with the Rev. Kyle Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to services at the church and other times at 711 Mercer Avenue, Wilmington.
