MARSHFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – A tractor-trailer loaded with 12,000 gallons of propane crashed Monday morning, sending the tanker into the Winooski River.
It happened just after 7 a.m. along Route 2 in Marshfield.
Officials say the driver lost control going around a curve, sending the tanker into the river and the cab through a utility pole.
Police shut down Route 2.
The tanker got a small leak. Officials said about a pint of propane had leaked out so far.
The driver wasn’t hurt.
“That’s a good day nobody gets hurt. Very minor injuries to the driver. The tractor was on its side in middle of the road right on the yellow line. He was very lucky,” Marshfield Fire Chief Will Schwar said.
Monday afternoon crews were working to transfer the propane into a new tanker and working to get the crashed one out of the river.
Vt. Fish and Wildlife said so far, there has been no impact to the ecology.
The DMV is investigating the crash.
