SCHENECTADY – Police spent hours at a Craig Street apartment building Friday investigating reports of a man with a gun.
The building at 400 Craig St., which houses the Electric City Barn’s collection of studio space for artists, was evacuated while police – including officers in tactical gear – searched the building.
It does not appear that anyone was injured.
The city closed several blocks of Craig Street in the vicinity of the building.
Some building residents have been taken to the Schenectady Police Department headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.
One vehicle, an Audi sedan, was seen being placed on the top of a flatbed truck to be taken from the scene.
The building, as well as several other nearby apartment apartment buildings, is owned by Community Builders, Inc.
The refurbishment of the old Catholic school and other structures have been touted as part of an effort to improve the quality of life on Craig Street, which is in the heart of the city’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood.
But some tenants have complained of drug use in some of the Community Builders’ apartments. Last year, officials from Community Builders told tenants they planned to add more cameras into their buildings.
Police were examining recordings from security cameras on Friday.
