Shoplifter nabbed by officers waiting outside store: University Hts.



Theft: Cedar Road

At 12:50 p.m. May 22, as officers were conducting a walk-through at Target, 14070 Cedar Road, security informed them that a man suspected of committing several past thefts was in the store and appeared to be stealing once again.

Officers waited as the suspect left the store. Police then detained the suspect and found that he was in possession of stolen merchandise totaling $777.46. The Cleveland man, 35, was charged with theft. The man is suspected to have also stolen from the store the day before.

Assault: Kerwin Road

At 6:20 a.m. May 18, police were called to an apartment where a Shaker Heights man, 29, and a Cleveland woman, 20, were involved in a physical altercation. Officers separated the two parties.

Neither person wanted to file charges against the other. Police sent a report to the city prosecutor to determine if charges should be filed.

Domestic violence: Cedarbrook Road

At 10:15 p.m. May 18, officers were called to a home on a report of a verbal and physical altercation between family members. Officers removed one youth from the home for care. A report of the incident was forwarded to the detective bureau.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 1 p.m. May 19, police were dispatched to the Speedway gas station, 14458 Cedar Road, on a report of employee theft. The store’s manager said that the employee, a Cleveland man, 31, had “purchased” a $500 gift card for himself, but failed to pay for the card. Police contacted the employee, who met with officers. Police charged the man with theft.

Grand theft: Cedar Road

At 8:30 p.m. May 21, a woman reported that her car, a 2016 Mazda, had been stolen from the T-Mobile store parking lot, 13996 Cedar Road.

Curfew violation: Cedar Road

At 3:50 a.m. May 23, police were called to the Speedway gas station on a report that two youths were loitering in the parking lot. Police identified the boys as 15-year-olds from Cleveland and Cleveland Heights.

It was discovered that one of the boys had taken his parents’ car without their permission and used it to drive to Speedway. Both boys were cited for curfew violations. The boys were then turned over to their parents.

Vehicle trespass: Eaton Road

At 11:15 a.m. May 23, a woman reported that someone had gone through her unlocked parked car during the previous night. Nothing was missing, but the woman did find in and around her car her neighbor’s belongings. The neighbor, a woman, 29, also reported that someone had entered her car.

Disturbing the peace: Warrensville Center Road

At 12:10 a.m. May 24, police responded to a report of a loud party taking place in the Warrensville Center Road-Meadowbrook Boulevard area. Officers discovered that two loud house parties taking place on Warrensville Center Road.

In one, police charged a 25-year-old man, a student at John Carroll University, with disturbing the peace. At the other house, police charged with the same offense a 24-year-old male JCU student.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

At 10:45 a.m. May 21, it was reported that a backpack blower was stolen from a landscaper’s truck parked in front of a house. A witness saw two male suspects in a red Ford Focus take the blower. The detective bureau is investigating.

Criminal damage: Cedar Road

At 1:55 p.m. May 24, it was reported that someone had spread paint over the rear window and rear portion of a parked Mercedes automobile.
