WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) -First West Thrift store is teaming up with KNOE to collect basic necessities for Hurricane Laura victims in Lake Charles. They’re taking items like bottled water, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, and paper towels.
“This is a great way to help out the community. This is a great way help out the people…there’s so many people that are in need in Lake Charles right now, and this is the least that we can do for them,” said First West Thrift store employee Elise Kirkland.
The items will be taken to Lake Charles on Thursday, September 17.
“We’re taking them down to Lake Charles Thursday to help out with the people in need down there and to provide as much as we can because we really wanna help out in their community,” said Kirkland.
People said they were moved to donate to help people in Southwest Louisiana who need it the most.
“Well I mean, most of them have lost everything,” said Joanna McDuffie.
McDuffie donated items like toothpaste and shampoo. She said it’s a simple gesture for a greater cause.
“Just sometimes it just makes you feel better. Just to be able to…to at least take care of your personal needs,” said McDuffie.
First West said they’re hoping to get as many donations as possible.
“I recommend that y’all come join, come bring some donations, and let’s make somebody’s day,” said Kirkland.
First West will be collecting donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15.
