TBDC spreads the word about trucking career options – Truck News

A group of people got a taste of career options during the Toronto Business Development Centre’s (TBDC) recent Introduction to Trucking session.

About 15 participants received insights into the trucking industry during the non-profit’s event, which was launched in collaboration with The Career Foundation and iMVR.

“TBDC wants to be a bridge connecting newcomers, refugees, students and new permanent residents with employment or a second career in industries like trucking,” said Mustafa Ansari, TBDC marketing associate.

The session explained the different types of trucks and roles of drivers. It highlighted the benefits and opportunities available, and the critical skills needed to succeed. It also pointed out the industry’s demands and rewards.

iMVR’s virtual reality simulator offered participants an immersive experience into driving a truck and performing backing maneuvers. They also explored its interior and got insight into the pre-trip inspection process.

After a roadmap to pursue a trucking career was provided, seven to eight people expressed interest, Ansari said. TBDC is planning an industry visit for them that will include a driver training school and a trucking company, he added.
