A Pocatello man had his truck smashed by a freight train but managed to get out safely before the impact Thursday night after his vehicle became high-centered on railroad tracks north of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho State Police said.

State police said Christopher Kirk, 29, was traveling in a 2008 Dodge pickup truck and was attempting to cross the tracks north of Broxon Road and Blaser Highway.

State police said the truck became stuck when Kirk “failed to locate the crossing.” Police said Kirk exited the vehicle before the train hit and the 11:21 p.m. collision knocked the truck about 500 feet from the crossing.

Nobody was injured and state police are investigating the crash.
