FIRE crews are continuing their efforts to extinguish the remnants of a fiery truck crash which unfolded along the Hume Highway yesterday. The crash closed all northbound lanes of the Hume Highway at Berremangra, northeast of Jugiong and Gundagai, after the vehicle rolled and caught fire, coming to rest on the centre line between the two lanes at about 2.50pm on Wednesday. Both the Southern Tablelands and South West Slopes fire control units worked to extinguish the blaze and clear the road, with crews from the South West Slopes wrapping up their efforts at about 9pm last night. At the time of the incident, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the driver was taken to Yass Hospital in a stable condition, but no details of his injuries were provided. However, the efforts of RFS crews are not over yet, with firefighters from the South West Slopes unit returning to the area this morning along the Old Hume Highway where cardboard waste from the truck continues to smolder. A spokesperson from the South West Slopes unit said they had a crew on scene currently, about 9am on Thursday, working to put out the last of the waste.
