CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – A truck crashed into a building and started a fire that destroyed a store Sunday morning near US 41 and Edgewater Drive in Charlotte County.

One person was rushed to the hospital in Manatee County, according to Charlotte County Fire. Information on the person’s or their condition wasn’t immediately available, but firefighters did say they had burns.

Fire crews searched the truck and only found one person.

Charlotte County Fire said the truck went airborne and cleared one building before landing on top of the store, Fishin’ Frank’s, at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Multiple Charlotte County Fire crews responded along with Punta Gorda, North Port, and Englewood fire crews. Firefighters did confirm the fire is out now, but there is still smoke in the area.

US 41 was completely shut down in the area Sunday morning while crews battled the flames, Charlotte County Fire said. The fire started as a result of the car crashing into the building.
