Two patients were airlifted in critical condition after being ejected from a pickup truck in rural Maury County overnight on Wednesday.
The single-vehicle rollover occurred on Mooresville Pike near Peach Orchard Road near the Culleoka Community, the Maury County Fire Department confirmed.
The department, the first to arrive on the scene, found two patients ejected from the vehicle and in critical condition.
Two aircraft were requested by EMS as well as additional EMS resources, the volunteer department said.
Deputies from the Maury County Sheriff’s Department also worked to quickly extinguish a fire inside the truck while the fire department concentrated on acting for the two patients in critical condition.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Lifeflight 4 and Lewisburg’s Air Evac 9 responded to the scene and transported the patients to medical attention at VUMC in Nashville.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved,” said District 1 Chief Richard Schatz in a statement shared on the department’s social media account. “Our hats are off to the tremendous work by Maury Regional EMS 136 personnel who worked feverishly to treat two critical patients with fire department assistance until additional EMS resources could arrive.”
