Woman struck, killed by pickup on State Road 60 in Plant City

PLANT CITY — A pickup truck struck and killed a 21-year-old Plant City woman on State Road 60 on Sunday.

The crash happened about 9 p.m. while the woman was walking in the westbound travel lanes near the intersection of S.R. 60 and Sam Hicks Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver of a pickup heading west saw the woman in the road and swerved but was unable to avoid a collision, troopers said.

The woman died from her injuries at a local hospital. The pickup driver, a 45-year-old Lakeland man, was not injured.

The Highway Patrol no longer includes in news releases the names of people involved in traffic crashes due to its interpretation of Marsy’s Law. The 2018 amendment to the Florida Constitution is intended to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had been available under the state’s public records laws.
