A garbage truck worker was killed in what appears to be a “tragic accident” Monday in East Providence, police say.
According to Chief William Nebus, a nearby resident noticed a garbage truck at 305 Lyon Ave. for an “abnormal period of time.” When the resident went to check it out, he found a worker pinned between the truck and the dumpster.
The victim appears to have been the driver of the truck based on what he was wearing, and the only one operating it for RJ Souto, a private trash removal service, Nebus said.
Police are trying to determine the circumstances leading to the truck moving while the man was outside of it, Nebus said.
The man, whose identity isn’t being released pending notification of next of kin, was dead at the scene, police said.
